Biography

Giuliano Gemma, the hero of the Italian western, was born in Rome on September 2, 1938. As soon as he came of age, he started as a stuntman and actor, working for famous directors such as Luchino Visconti and Dino Risi.

The real turning point in his career takes place thanks to Duccio Tessari, who noticed him for his beauty and physical prowess. From then on, the actor will be the protagonist of many film genres: historical-mythological peplum, science fiction, comic-parody, spy story, gangster story, and especially spaghetti western under the pseudonym of Montgomery Wood.

He was twice the winner of the Vittorio De Sica prize respectively in 1983 and 2008 and winner of a special David di Donatello and a Nastro D'Argento for his lifetime achievement. He tragically died in a car accident in 2013 in Civitavecchia.
